Monorail New Capital Train

The Egyptian Ministry of Public Transport has announced its latest project in the Egyptian public transport system, which is the Monorail New Capital Train, with the aim of linking the city of Greater Cairo, the Administrative Capital, and New Cairo, easing traffic and facilitating movement to new urban cities in a short time, increasing investment opportunities in the administrative capital.

What is monorail project?

The monorail project is the first of its kind in Egypt, and it is characterized by being fast, modern, safe and environmentally friendly means, saving fuel consumption, reducing environmental pollution rates and alleviating traffic jams in the axes and main streets, making you reach your destination in the shortest possible time. .

It is an electric train built on one line of rails, and it has been implemented on an upper track isolated from the surface of the earth, and the monorail train works with electricity like the subway.

The Egyptian Ministry of Transport has implemented two of the monorail train projects, one in the administrative capital and one in the 6h of October, and the monorail project extends to the administrative capital at a length of 56 km and at a speed of 90 km/h, as the train route starts from the stadium station to the administrative capital in only 60 minutes, and the monorail works automatically and without a driver, via a central control unit, running inside a concrete beam.

The latest development of the Monorail project?

Monorail train is located on the East Nile line, the “Administrative Capital”, specifically in front of Al-Massa Hotel, Green River Administrative Capital, The Governmental District New Capital, and IL Bosco New Capital Compound.

The Monorail New Capital is considered one of the green and environmentally friendly means of transportation, as it reduces environmental pollution rates.

Two of the 40 trains for the Monorail New Capital Train “East of the Nile” have arrived, while one of the 30 trains for the Sixth of October Monorail “West of the Nile” has arrived, with the rest of the train fleet on its way.

The following are some of the most relevant details concerning the monorail project:

• The overall length of the “East Nile” and “West Nile” projects is 98.5 kilometers, with 35 stops, and each monorail line has a capacity of 600,000 people per day.
• Each monorail train has four vehicles, and with the increased population density in the new metropolitan regions, the number of carriages will be increased to eight.
• The Monorail New Capital project was completed at a pace of 24.7%, with a proportion of civil works at 27.5%, “including implementation, supplies, and design.”
• The entire percentage of electromagnetically worked reached 22%, with 11% equipment manufacturing work.

The importance of the Monorail New Capital Train

Monorail New Capital Train connects the Greater Cairo region to new urban areas in eastern Cairo, such as New Cairo and the New Administrative Capital, increasing the chances of attracting investors and customers to own units or to invest in the Administrative Capital, in addition to its most important role in facilitating the movement of citizens coming from Cairo, Giza, and those heading towards New Cairo and the Administrative Capital.

The owner company of the monorail project

National Authority for Tunnels owns the monorail project, in collaboration with three companies: Bombardier
International Transportation Company, Arab Contractors, and Orascom Construction Company.

The implementation of the Monorail Administrative project started from 1/8/2019 for a period of 34 months, while
the implementation period for the October Monorail project is 42 months, starting from 1/1/2020.

Furthermore, the total cost of the project amounted to 4.5 billion dollars, equivalent to 4.1 billion euros.

Monorail New Capital Train’s opening

The first sector of the New Administrative Capital Monorail project is set to open for testing at the end of May 2022, with stations spanning 45 kilometers from the New Administrative Capital to Al-Moshir Mosque.

The second sector will open in February 2023, stretching 11.5 kilometers from Al-Musheer Mosque station to the stadium station.

Features of the Monorail New Capital Train

• There are safe passages between the train cars that allow passengers to move from one carriage to another.
• All vehicles of the Monorail Administrative Capital project are fully equipped for people with special needs.
• The capacity of the Monorail train per hour ranges from 15,000 to 45,000 passengers.
• Screen doors are scheduled to be installed in front of the train doors to maintain the safety and security of passengers.
• The Greater Cairo region will be linked to new urban areas and cities such as New Cairo and the New Capital.
• The journey time of the monorail new capital from Cairo Stadium to the New Administrative Capital is about 60 minutes.
• Monorail vehicles are equipped with LCD screens to display information about the trip.
• The 6th of October monorail line will be implemented and is scheduled to take a period of 42 months to be put into operation.
• All monorail cars are equipped with over-the-door maps that show routes, along with an automated audio system that alerts the arrival of each stop.
• The progress of the Monorail project is centrally controlled through a series of automated command and control centers.
• The contract signed between the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and the Canadian company extends up to 30 years
• Providing Wifi inside each vehicles of the monorail project.
• The spread of surveillance cameras inside each station, and cameras inside the vehicles to ensure the highest level of security and safety.

The price of Monorail train

The Egyptian Ministry of Transport has announced that the ticket price will be in the range of 20-25 Egyptian pounds, and it will be separated into stages, similar to the underground subway.
